About the classes

What ages are the classes for?

There are two classes: Young Builders for ages 7–9 and Junior Makers for ages 10+. Each time slot is for one age group, so kids learn with kids their own age.

When are classes and how long are they?

One 2.5-hour class on a Saturday or Sunday, starting Saturday, November 14. Pick a start time: 9:00–11:30 am, 11:45 am–2:15 pm or 2:30–5:00 pm.

What will my child learn?

Ages 7–9 learn tool safety, measuring and marking, sawing straight, drilling, screwing, hammering, and finishing with sandpaper and paint. Ages 10+ also learn to read a plan and cut list, measure accurately, use a pull saw and clamps, how to make strong joints, and how to test and improve a build.

Do you teach 3D printing?

Coming soon: a 2-week Wood + 3D Printing class. Join the waitlist on the Enroll page and we will email you when dates open.

Can we choose the project?

No need. We pick a project that fits the age group, so everyone builds together and gets help at every step.

Does my child need any experience?

No. We start with safety and simple tools, and every step is shown first.

How many kids are in a class?

Up to 8, so every child gets help.

Are the tools safe for kids?

Yes. Kids use hand tools: small saws in a miter box, hand drills, hammers and screwdrivers. Everyone wears safety glasses. Clamps hold the wood, not hands. Power tools are used only by the instructor.

Booking and payment

How does the $50 deposit work?

Ages 7–9 is $129 and ages 10+ is $109. The $50 deposit holds your child’s seat. The rest ($79 or $59) is paid at the class by e-Transfer, card or cash.

Can I get a refund?

Cancel 7 or more days before the class for a full deposit refund. Less than 7 days before, your deposit moves to another class. If we cancel a class, you get a full refund. See our Policies page.

What if we can’t make it?

Tell us as soon as you can. With 7 or more days’ notice you get a full deposit refund; with less, your deposit moves to another weekend.

What if the class is full?

Join the waitlist on the Enroll page. We email you if a seat opens.

On the day

What should my child wear and bring?

Closed-toe shoes, clothes that can get a bit of paint or sawdust, long hair tied back, a water bottle and a nut-free snack. We supply everything else.

Can parents stay?

Come back 10 minutes before the end to see the finished projects.

Allergies?

We use pine wood, wood glue, kid-safe paint and PLA plastic. Tell us about any allergies when you book.

What do kids take home?

Their finished project, the same day. Paint may need a little more time to dry at home.

Events, parties and groups

Can you run a workshop at our event?

Yes: birthday parties, festivals, company family days, schools, daycares, Scouts/Guides and libraries. We travel across Waterloo Region, or you bring your group to our Cambridge workshop. See Event workshops.

Where are classes held?

At our workshop in Cambridge, Ontario. The exact address is in your confirmation email.

Only 8 seats per class.

Pick a Saturday or Sunday time and save a seat with a $50 deposit. The rest is paid at the class.
